About Me

I am a Year Twp Teacher Candidate at the University of Ottawa. As a life long learner, I am passionate about helping students grow, learn, and have fun.

I am also a mom of two busy kids. In my time outside of school, I love to read, cook, stay active, and explore the world with my young family.

I believe a classroom community is built on respect, communication, and a willingness to learn.
I believe teachers need to model inclusion and equity in their classrooms and school community.
I believe students should feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions.
I believe students and teachers should respond with curiosity instead of judgement.
I believe students should help to co-create their classroom environment so that their interests are reflected and they are invested in their learning.
I believe students learn best when they feel safe and heard.
I believe in play and fun in the classroom.

Practicum - 2021-2022

John Young Elementary School, Grade 5/6

I had the pleasure and challenge of working with an exuberant grade 5/6 class at JYES in Kanata. Our students came from diverse community and as such, the classroom was made up of students with diverse strengths and interests. I learned so much from them, as well as my Associate Teacher, and Year 2 Teacher Candidate.

Below are a few of the adventures that we had together.

Our class loved exploring math through games, with a favourite being chess. Chess allowed students to practice problem solving and develop strategies.
There is also a picture of our classroom, located in a portable. I like to this of this picture as the clam before the day begins and all of the spaces are filled with sound and energy.
Our class had some challenges with bullying, and so I started a Random Act of Kindness Challenge where students could recognize each other for their acts of service. Students were incentivized to participate. Each week I would read the anonymous messages and we would have a random draw where students could win some of the classroom currency.

Practicum - 2022-2023

Goulbourn Middle School

Things started off one way and ended another with my placement. At the beginning of the school year, my Associate Teacher and I had a homeroom and two additional classes who we would teach English and Math. In October, our school reorganized and we lost our homeroom and gained more students. We ended up teaching English to two grade eight class, Math to one grade eight class, Art and Drama to four grade eight classes and one grade seven. It was a good reminder of the need to be flexible and adaptable. And to do everything in your power to help students feel safe and supported.
