This lesson was taught as part of Black History Month. In addition to Viola Desmond, the lesson discussed Black Excellence and the importance of discussing Black joy and success, not just the struggle.

Students were very engaged and interested in this lesson. They were moved by Viola Desmond's activism. Many also voiced their disappointment at the injustice of her arrest and the length of time it took charges to be dropped. And for her to be recognized for her contributions to Canada.
