I created a Media Literacy Unit for our two grade eight English classes. The unit began with weekly lessons where we explored things like privacy, algorithms, bias, and targetted ads. As a culminating projects, students had to create a product and partner with an influencer (either real or fictitious) and create: an influencer proposal, two advertisements for different platforms, and a YouTube/TV/Instagram ad.Â
Students shared their final projects with the rest of the class, explaining their choices, including target audience. And some even recorded their ads!
