I taught a few standalone art lessons in the earlier part of my practicum before creating an entire unit. My associate teacher emphasizes the importance of learning the elements of design. And I decided to have a little fun with it. Have students create a a drawing and then apply a minimum of three unusual textures to it.

I had initially felt intimidated about teaching art, as I don't consider myself particularly artistically gifted. My AT; however, emphasized the importance of assessing for effort, creativity, and following instructiuons, rather than ability. In so doing, students can feel successful. In order to be transparent, I also walked students through the Success Criteria prior to assign a new project.
